Trade Name: Tamoxifen

* Composition: Each tablet contains:

Tamoxifen 10mg or 20mg

* Inactive ingredients: Corn starch , lactose monohydrate , povidone K30 , magnesium stearate , sodium starch glycolate .

* Properties: Antitumor agent. Antiestrogen. Blocks estrogen receptors and thus inhibits the progression of tumor disease, stimulated by estrogens.

* Adults:

The usual recommended daily dose of tamoxifen is 20 mg. When taking higher doses, there is an additional benefit in the form of a later recurrence or improved survival of patients. Data supporting the use of 30-40 mg per day for treatment are not available, despite the fact that they have been used to treat patients with more extensive diseases.

* Elderly patients:

A similar dosing regimen has been used in elderly patients with breast cancer, and in some patients as monotherapy.

* Anovulatory infertility:

Prior to the appointment of a course of therapy, initiating or subsequent, it is necessary to exclude a possible pregnancy. For women with regular but anovulatory menstrual cycles, the initiating dose is 20 mg daily given on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th day of the menstrual cycle. In case of unsatisfactory basal temperature or insufficiency of pre-ovulatory cervical mucus, a subsequent course of treatment may be prescribed during further menstrual cycles, increasing the dose to 40 and then to 80 mg per day.In women with regular menstrual cycles, initiation of treatment may occur on any day of the cycle. In the absence of signs of ovulation, the subsequent course of treatment can be started 45 days after the completion of the previous treatment with a dose increase as described above.

* Contraindications: Thrombophlebitis, pregnancy, hypersensitivity to tamoxifen.

* Warnings and precautions: Use with caution in leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hypercalcemia, in patients with cataracts, hyperlipidemia.

In the course of treatment, the picture of peripheral blood (especially the number of platelets) should be regularly monitored; the level of calcium and glucose in the blood; with prolonged use, an ophthalmologist’s observation is indicated (every 3 months).

It should not be combined with preparations containing hormones, especially estrogen.

With simultaneous use with drugs that affect the blood coagulation system, a dose adjustment of tamoxifen is necessary.

In experimental studies, the carcinogenic effect of tamoxifen has been established.

* Side effects: From the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, increased activity of hepatic transaminases; in some cases — fatty infiltration of the liver, cholestasis, hepatitis.

From the side of the central nervous system: rarely — depression, dizziness, headache, retrobulbar neuritis.

On the part of the organ of vision: rarely — retinopathy, keratopathy, cataracts.

From the hematopoietic system: rarely — thrombocytopenia, leukopenia.From the endocrine system: in women — endometrial hyperplasia, vaginal bleeding, hot flashes, weight gain; in men — impotence, decreased libido.

From the side of the cardiovascular system: edema, thromboembolism, phlebitis.

Dermatological reactions: alopecia, rash, itching.

Other: pain in the bones and lesions, fever.

* Storage: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, in a dry place.
